Antelope Canyon Retrospective

Very interesting news with landscape photographer Peter Lik selling an image "Phantom"of Antelope Canyon for $6.5 million. Lots of comments and debate.

It has inspired me to look back at images I took there. What an amazing place and what a crazy day. We couldn't believe how many people were in the canyon that day. It was like a high school hallway between classes, but everyone has a tripod! The light is very low so I remember shooting at around 10-20 second exposures. This makes it very difficult to get images with nobody in them.

A couple of my keepers from that day
These are available for slightly less than $6.5 million :)

On The Way To Work

I've been seeing some great sunrises on the way to work lately. Sunrises & sunsets are done so much that I find the only thing that makes them different or stand out is what is included in the foreground. Even if its in silhouette. Here are some of my attempts.

Jordan Harbor Shipwreck

In my photography I find myself always trying to do something different. Something that feels like I have ownership in. That is a hard thing to do these days. Especially when it comes to subject matter. I'm the type of guy who will drive around looking for interesting things to shoot, and I find a lot of neat stuff right here in the Niagara Region.
With photography being more popular than ever, I know that most cool things I find have been shot before. One of the more unique things to shoot in the region is a burnt out half sunk ship in the Jordan Harbor. Its been there for years and obviously people have been taking photos of it for years. Just google "Jordan Harbor" and look under images. I've seen so many photos of this ship that I was never interested in making images of it. I kind of put up a roadblock in my head against even trying.
Then I saw an image that a friend took of this shipwreck. It was fresh, It was different. It made me see the subject in a different way. In an instant I went from roadblock to wondering why I haven't spent some time with this subject.

Here's one more for the search engines.

In the Boardroom

Some exciting news !
I have been working with a design agency "The Brain Farm" for the past few months in selecting images for one of their clients. The client chose a beautiful image "Cold Niagara Mist" that I took last February on one of the coldest mornings I have ever gone out shooting. The finished piece is 122" x 45" standing off the wall 3", printed using a dye sublimation process. Its home is the boardroom at  KPMG's offices in St. Catharines.

Kass and I were honored to attend the grand opening of KPMG's new office this evening to see the finished piece on the wall. It was breathtaking. A real compliment to the beautiful space there.

Thanks Kim & Luke :)

This boardroom is appropriately named  "The Niagara Room"

It was a foggy morning and seemed like a good time to concentrate on some leading lines in the Niagara Vineyards.
