Multiple Exposures

The possibilities are endless when you start thinking in multiple exposures. Especially when you realize not every exposure needs to be in focus or lined up with the last :)
These are all done in camera.

Earthbound Angels Made of Stone

Some of you may know that I have a passion for shooting cemetery angels. It's been going on for a long time:)
I wanted to do something everlasting with the images I have made other than letting them accumulate on the hard drive.
Presenting the images with poetry is an idea that came to me while making slide shows one day.
After some searching I found Elaine C. George. She is an International award winning poet that I met through the Canadian Authors Association. Her way with words is amazing. If you read Lassie and you will see what I mean. The poetry has an emotional quality to it that I loved. You should also read Violin, Most of her work can be found on Poetry Soup. I gave her a bunch of images and after absorbing them for weeks she began to write.
I am so excited and proud to show you all this collaboration, it has turned out better than both Elaine and I expected !

Its that time of year again, back to the camera club and a whole new set of challenges.
First topic "Lowdown" Images that have been taken from a low viewpoint. I had this idea about an image of the underside of a vehicle with someone standing at the front of it. I thought that might tell a little bit of a story.
My nephew was willing to help me out again so we jumped in the truck and brought his sisters bike along for some alternative shots. As it often turns out, the shot you envisioned in your head does not turn out as well as you think but the other shots you think up on the spot are much better. Probably because those alternate shots are based on the light & composition possibilities you see at the time.
Loving these shots of Brandon on the bike. This first one with him looking down is one of those in between shot, when he's not sure i'm taking a picture. Its very natural. These were taken laying on some cardboard on the road with the camera right on the ground. As low as you can go.
The Truck one is OK to :)

Simple Ideas

Some more attempts at simplicity. I've been thinking along these lines again lately, and have some ideas rolling around in my head to try.
Thanks for dropping by :)

Evan !

Have not posted in a while as life has been a bit crazy lately.
Could not be prouder to introduce you to Evan William James Creighton!
Evan came quite early and in a rather scary way but things are turning out very well. My camera has found a new muse :)

Hoping you come home soon Evan & Mama !

I find it interesting that even with my own personal photos i'm still drawn to black & white.

If You Go Away ....

A few years ago I was turned on to an Icelandic singer Emilíana Torrini. She has a bone chilling voice. You should defiantly check her stuff out. I was quite struck by a song called "if you go away"
The verses feel so melancholy so heavy and in contrast the choruses are light, airy and full of hope. The best part is the transition from verse to chorus, sad to happy. That transition has an amazing feeling.
When I looked into it, I could not believe how old this song really is and how many artist have done versions of it! It's an adaptation of the 1959 Jacques Brel song "Ne me quitte pas" with English lyrics by Rod McKuen. C.
Although Emilíana has stayed true to the melody, the instrumentation in this version emphasizes that contrast from dark to light. I love it !
I knew that this would be a great song to put images too.  I really wanted to emphasize the opposite feelings in the song and the dramatic transitions between them. My first idea was the change in seasons for the transitions. Bare trees and cool muted colors for the somber feel. Full foliage trees and warm saturated colors for the happy feel. This is great but I quickly realized that with such a powerful lyric I needed to tell more of a story that landscapes can do. So I have tried to combine portraits that tell a story with landscape and the seasons incorporated. Many thanks to Rebecca McIvor for modeling on this little project!
Here is my interpretation of ...  If you go away

Ode to Rembrandt

The last challenge at The Welland Camera Club this year is "Ode to Rembrandt" This was a tough one for me. I had some ideas but ran out of time to do them.
These are self portraits lit in Rembrandt style of lighting using only a flashlight. I am already looking forward to doing these challenges next year.

The third directors challenge at the Welland Camera Club this year.

Bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. Bokeh has also been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light"

I ventured downtown Welland on a rainy night with my friend Peter to try and get some great bokeh. We experimented with nothing in focus and with a very small sliver of foreground in focus. Shooting like this definitely opens your mind to new possibilities !
Man I love these challenges.
